Is Tramadol a habit-forming drug?

It belongs to the group of medicines called opioid analgesics. The drug actually acts in the central nervous system to relieve the pain sensation. Of course, it’s a habit-forming drug and when used for a longer period, it forms a habit. In that condition, it causes mental and physical dependence. Still, people having a history of chronic pain should continue taking this drug. Addiction does not occur when narcotics are used for genuine purpose in the right proportion. If the drug intake is stopped suddenly, withdrawal symptoms may occur. Consult your doctor as severe withdrawal symptoms can be reduced or completely prevented if the dose is gradually reduced over a period of time.
